The International Conference on Emerging Trends in Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (ELECOM) was organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Mauritius. This is the premier event that brings together industry professionals, academics, and individuals from government agencies and other institutions to exchange information and ideas on electrical, electronic, communication engineering and computing. The conference featured a comprehensive technical program offering numerous technical sessions with papers showcasing the latest technologies, applications and services.

The second edition of this conference was held at Maritim Crystals Beach Hotel, Belle Mare, in Mauritius, on 28-30 November 2018. The Republic of Mauritius is a tropical island located about 1200 miles off the south eastern coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. It is surrounded by a beautiful stretch of 93 miles of white sandy beaches. Mauritius has a rich multi-cultural diversity and is the home of two UNESCO world heritage sites.

The conference also hosted a workshop on "Fascination with Systems Engineering” whose purpose was to raise awareness around the application of systems engineering in multiple industries. It was cross cutting and had several interfaces with traditional electrical, electronic and communications engineering and many of the topics covered by the ELECOM 2018 conference page. Participants of this workshop from both academia and industry benefited from the wide experience of the presenters and the real-life applications in major industries.
